Chapter Leadership & Responsibilities

Chapter 711 is guided by its officers and supported by appointed leaders who keep meetings, records, veteran services, and community programs moving forward.

Fiscal year: July 1 through June 30.
Officer elections: April.

Leading the chapter

Chapter Officers

Officers plan chapter business, represent members, protect chapter records and funds, and help members take part in the work of the organization.

Chapter Commander

Leads chapter meetings, ceremonies, and programs; prepares agendas and a yearly calendar; oversees reports, appointments, membership efforts, and fundraising; and helps officers carry out their duties. The Commander oversees approved spending and represents the chapter at department and national activities when possible.

Senior Vice Commander

Supports the Commander, helps lead membership and outreach efforts, checks in with members, and encourages participation in meetings and events. Presides when the Commander is absent and keeps the Commander informed of chapter concerns.

Junior Vice Commander

Assists the Commander and Senior Vice Commander, coordinates fundraising and chapter programs, and helps the Adjutant with the officer election process. Presides when both senior officers are absent.

Finance Officer

Maintains the chapter’s financial records and property, prepares regular financial reports and a proposed budget, and handles approved payments under the chapter’s financial procedures. Transfers financial records and property promptly to a successor.

Judge Advocate

Advises the Commander on meeting procedure and the chapter’s governing documents, helps meetings follow an orderly agenda, and assists with chapter questions within the scope of the position.

Chapter Trustees

Review chapter accounts and related records, report their findings to the chapter, and help members maintain confidence in the chapter’s stewardship.

Sergeant at Arms

Prepares the meeting room and chapter colors, greets attendees, manages the sign-in record, helps preserve an orderly meeting, and safeguards chapter property afterward.

Supporting the mission

Appointed Positions

The Commander appoints members to these roles and may establish additional committees as needed.

Adjutant

Maintains meeting minutes, the member roster, chapter files, and official correspondence. Helps prepare required reports and election records, supports membership processing, and distributes chapter communications and newsletters.

Historian

Preserves a record of chapter meetings, programs, photographs, newsletters, and other significant activities so members can see and pass on the chapter’s history.

Chaplain

Offers prayers at chapter meetings and ceremonies, supports members and families during illness or bereavement, and assists with memorial observances for departed Patriots.

Executive Committeeman & Alternate

Represent the chapter on the Department Executive Committee when the Commander and Vice Commanders are unable to do so, according to the organization’s procedures.

Americanism Officer

Promotes patriotic programs, works with civic and veterans’ organizations, encourages respectful display of the American flag, and helps the chapter observe national holidays and Purple Heart Day.

Service Officer

Helps veterans and families locate benefits information and connects them with qualified Veterans Service Officers and appropriate resources. Protects confidential information and coordinates with the wider MOPH service program.

Welfare Officer

Helps connect members in need with community and VA resources, supports volunteer service at VA facilities when appropriate, and reports chapter welfare activities through the organization.

ROTC & JROTC Leadership Program Chair

Coordinates the chapter’s participation in the national ROTC and JROTC recognition program and helps present leadership awards to outstanding cadets at their schools.
